design with direction?
Our slogan is "design with direction." We came up with that on one of our many multi-mile walks when trying to figure how best to describe our services. There is a plethora of "good" designers who know how to apply the software and create visually appealing designed presentations. If looks were the only measure, then all the great looking stuff you see would motivate you to buy, do, engage. You have to build and leverage brand recognition, engage the public, motivate a conversation, and establish a foothold of both viability and tangibility in the arena of want / need supply. Yours is a product (goods, ideas, and/or service) that has an audience. The "trick" is finding the consumer that needs/wants it, and motivating them to let you impact their life.
What is the result? What is its intent? What makes it uniquely you, your brand, or your message? Just because your design is nice to look at it, does not mean you are going to get attention. Just because you are loud and get attention does not make you memorable. Just because people remember you, does not mean they will think fondly of you or be motivted to act. There are a lot of misconceptions about advertising (at least what makes effective advertising). Advertising that works, must have some targeted result. Ultimately it must build brand and develop sales - anything less is not working for you - it is just a bunch of wasted time and space.
In college, Rebekah and I both had to memorize something called The Effective Speaker Principles for freshman speech class. The one that stuck out to me (and still resides in my memory) said:
The effective speaker realizes the primary purpose of speech is the communication of ideas and feelings in order to get a desired response.
That is my philosophy of advertising as well. Advertising, its primary purpose, is communication. Communication of what? Ideas and feelings. To what end? To get a desired response. That equation is what AdJourney assembles for its clients. Design with direction is finding the brand message and delivery methods that resonates, impacts, engages, and motivates clients, while building your brand, creating believability, and growing the bottom line. Anything else is a waste of time and money.
